In this week’s Hobnobbing, we offer advice for the franchise’s first outing at the big show!

Come June 3, “The Hunger Games” will enter a brand-new arena: the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. And this is one fiery debut for the film franchise, with eight nominations, including Movie of the Year, Best Cast, Best Female Lead (Jennifer Lawrence), Best Male Performance (Josh Hutcherson), Breakthrough Performance (Liam Hemsworth), Best On-Screen Transformation (Elizabeth Banks), Best Fight (Lawrence and Hutcherson vs. Alexander Ludgwig), and Best Kiss (Lawrence and Hutcherson).

Yep, clearly the kind of credentials that would make any sponsor drool.

Much like the titular death match, the Movie Awards can be a contentious battle, with franchise facing off against franchise, so preparation is key. In this week’s Hobnobbing, we’re taking on the role of mentor (step aside, Haymitch!) and offering some advice to the tributes. Here are our dos and don’ts for the big night:

DO Dress to Impress Effie
If there’s one place to let your fashion freak flag fly, it’s most certainly at an MTV awards show. (Am I right, Rose McGowan?) Of course, I’m not encouraging any tribute-tushy flashing or donning of flame-licked jumpsuits (such a fire hazard!), but this is a safe space to experiment with fanciful motifs and pieces of flair. For instance, I could see Lawrence sporting a shorter, cropped version of her red, orange and yellow interview dress, or Banks working her sky-high Effie heels.

DON’T Tease Us
Full disclosure: I personally think “Twilight” co-stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are a lock for a fourth Best Kiss statuette, but if the odds are indeed in Lawrence and Hutcherson’s favor and they’re named victors, I respectfully ask that they give us a show. None of this we-almost-maybe-kinda-sorta-kissed business. If you need some inspiration, Jennifer and Josh, take a page out of Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams’ “Notebook.”

DO Bring Your Bow and Arrow
The Movie Awards have a storied history of spoofery, and while I have no insider information as to what’s in the works, Lawrence (if in attendance) would be wise to pack her trusty weapon. You never know when it will come in handy for a giggle-worthy gag! (Is this where I put in my request for Lawrence to shoot an apple off of Josh Horowitz‘s head?)

DON’T Drop Your Golden Popcorn
‘Nuff said.

DO Bring News About “Catching Fire”
We’re getting really hungry here, guys. Any scraps about the November 2013 release would be much appreciated. (Seriously, we’ll retrieve them from a pile of slop and devour them. We’re not proud!)

Do you have any Movie Awards advice for the “Hunger Games” gang? Sound off in the comments below and tweet me @amymwilk with your thoughts and suggestions for future columns!

Plus Justin Bieber, Justin Timberlake and others make special cameos in the show’s 100th Digital Short segment.

<P>Exactly one month before his new album, <a href="/news/articles/1682140/usher-looking-for-myself.jhtml"><i>Looking 4 Myself</a>,</i> hits shelves, the wheels of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher</a>'s promotional wagon gained momentum when the entertainer provided America with a set of contrasting performances and chuckles during this weekend's "Saturday Night Live" episode, which was hosted by "SNL" alum Will Ferrell.</P><P>Rocking simple black jeans, a jacket and tee, and a faux hawk, Ursh looked vibrant and energetic as he performed his brand-new single "Scream." Unlike previous expertly choreographed numbers for his dance tunes, the sunglass-donning singer showed off minimal, but nonetheless slick, moves, while his band and two backup singers filled his Studio 8 back stage.</P><P><object width="460" height="260"><param name="movie" value="http://www.hulu.com/embed/U94NsydHnYe4qA61SBc-bw/424/3531/i1411"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.hulu.com/embed/U94NsydHnYe4qA61SBc-bw/424/3531/i1411" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="460" height="260" allowFullScreen="true"></embed></object></P><P>"We at it again, 'SNL,' and this time we going to make you scream," he told the crowd at the start of the energetic cut.</P><P>His second performance was for the Diplo-produced cut "Climax," during which the singer showed off his sensual and smooth side. Clearing the area of his accompanying singers, Usher made his smooth falsetto the forefront of the number. It was a simple, authentic rendition of the hit song that was essential proof of his multi-faceted vocal talents.</P><P>In addition to his set of performances, the ATL singer appeared alongside Ferrell in the "2012 Funkytown Debate" skit, in which he played a character named Galactic Fantastic. Dressed in some sparkling duds and an oversized afro, the R&B entertainer played a wacky sidekick who brought in his singing voice to support Farrell's side of the grooving song debate.</P><P>Usher got even more airtime when he was joined by Justin Bieber, Justin Timberlake, Michael Bolton, Will Ferrell and Natalie Portman, who all made cameos in the episode's special 100th Digital Short. Paying tribute to some of the most popular Shorts like "Di– in a Box" and "Shy Ronnie," Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and the Biebs most fittingly put on a big-time celebration with accompanying jingle. It was an all-star affair and brought back some major giggles — especially when JT and Portman reprised their original Short roles.</P><P>To add to the night's surprises, Liam Neeson popped up during a "Weekend Update" segment for the Nicolas Cage parody "Get in the Cage." Neeson's upcoming summer flick "Battleship" was the main topic of conversation, with Samberg, as Cage, asking his usual "How am <i>I</i> not in that movie?!" Samberg went on to babble jealous nonsense about Neeson's other flicks in his spot-on Cage impersonation.</P><P>Like <a href="/news/articles/1684560/rihanna-saturday-night-live-performance.jhtml">last week's musical guest Rihanna</a>, Mr. Raymond's gig on the late-night sketch show marks his third appearance. And it's one of the many stops that the singer will make to promote his upcoming project. He's set to kick off the "Today" show's summer concert series on Friday, perform at the <a href="/news/articles/1684239/usher-kelly-clarkson-billboard-music-awards.jhtml">Billboard Music Awards</a> on May 20 and head overseas for Capital FM's Summertime Ball 2012 in London in early June.</P><P>Mick Jagger will perform double duty as host and musical guest on next week's "Saturday Night Live" season finale.</P><P><i>What did you think of Usher's "SNL" performances? Sound off below.</i></P><P><center><a href="http://www.mtv.com/photos/?fid=1617615"><img src="http://www.mtv.com/news/photos/s/spotted/banner/spotted.jpg"></a></center></p>

As Mother Monster celebrates her birthday, MTV News takes a look back at her most-interesting confessions … so far!
By Jocelyn Vena

<P>Listen up, Little Monsters: It's Mother Monster's 26th birthday! And in that quarter of a century (plus one year!), <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a> has managed to reinvent the pop wheel with her eccentric persona and pumping, politically charged dance music. When asked how she planned to celebrate another year, she simply told a Monster on <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/ladygaga" target="_blank">Twitter</a>, "Quinceanera."</P><P>While we'll be Quinceañera-ing in spirit, we <i>will</i> celebrate her colorful life and career by remembering 10 of the most-revealing bites she's shared with MTV News. So, dabble on some glitter, put on your best wig, platforms and leotard, and let's take a stroll down memory lane — in no particular order.</P><P><B>10.</B> In 2009, Gaga sat down and explained that when <a href="/news/articles/1610702/lady-gaga-kanye-west-saw-past-her-poker-face.jhtml">"Poker Face" was re-imagined by Kanye West and Kid Cudi</a> as "I Poke Her Face" (later changed to "Make Her Say"), she felt that it was time for someone to get the true meaning of the lady-love euphemism.</P><P><center><a href="http://www.mtv.com/content/news/2012/lady_gaga_26th_birthday_soundboard/"><img src="http://www.mtv.com/shared/promoimages/bands/l/lady_gaga/birthday_soundboard_032712/420×300.jpg"></a><br> <a href="http://www.mtv.com/content/news/2012/lady_gaga_26th_birthday_soundboard/"><b>Check out our Lady Gaga soundboard, and leave a birthday message for Mother Monster!</b></a></center></P><P>"It's funny, because a lot of my fans were like, 'Gaga, Kanye wrote a song … and it's not about what your record's about. Your record is about gambling, and this song is about dirty sex things,' " she recalled. "I said to them, 'You're wrong. Kanye was right,' " she explained, laughing.</P><P>"That's exactly what this song is about. The record is about how I used to fantasize about women when I was with my boyfriend. It was really exciting that he had so much insight into what the song was about. He's a cool guy."</P><P><B>9.</B> Gaga's pop-music kinship with <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/knowles_beyonce/artist.jhtml">Beyoncé</a> has been well-documented in two songs: G's <a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/lady-gaga/741160/telephone.jhtml#artist=3061469">"Telephone"</a> and B's <a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/beyonce/455581/video-phone-extended-remix.jhtml#artist=1236911">"Video Phone."</a> When Gaga headed to shoot the Hype Williams-directed <a href="/news/articles/1626441/lady-gaga-paid-tribute-beyonce-video-phone-clip.jhtml">video for "Video Phone,"</a> she had this message for the team: "I said, 'I want to do you in your video, and I want to tribute you. I want to dress up like you,' " Gaga recalled telling her co-star. "And Hype Williams … was so excited. He was like, 'Gaga, I want no makeup on your face.' It was really stripped down — real Beyoncé hair, and we wore the same outfit in the video, and I [paid tribute to] her."</P><P><B>8.</B> Gaga's love for her hometown of NYC is hardly surprising, and she shared on the <a href="/news/articles/1664761/lady-gaga-marry-the-night-fernando-garibay.jhtml">MTV special "Inside the Outside"</a> that when she sat down to write the track <a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/lady-gaga/742547/marry-the-night-official-video.jhtml#artist=3061469">"Marry the Night,"</a> "he" was the perfect muse to inspire the song. "It's never gonna go away, the tan of New York never goes away," she explained about always identifying with the city that bred her.</P><P><B>7.</B> During the same special, Gaga opened up about her <i>other</i> inspiration — <a href="/news/articles/1664709/lady-gaga-fans.jhtml">her fans</a> — adding, "The biggest surprise to me has been my relationship with my fans. They've changed my life. The fans are the thing that you can't learn; they were the instrument in the music that nobody taught me about."</P><P><B>6.</B> Always politically charged and motivated, Gaga has made it her mission to not only make chart-topping music, but also be a voice for the disenfranchised. When she sat down for <a href="/news/articles/1669351/lady-gaga-president.jhtml">"MTV First: Lady Gaga"</a> in 2011, she explained that, despite her strong political beliefs, she wouldn't want to run for office.</P><P>"Well, first of all, I wouldn't want to be president for the day," she said. "And I say that because I really, for myself, it's important that my message, although it has political implications, I like to keep myself separate because politics can constrain things," she continued. "So, our message can be completely free of any politics, and we can just surge forward."</P><P><B>5.</B> During that <a href="/news/articles/1669370/lady-gaga-mermaid-sex-you-and-i.jhtml">"MTV First,"</a> when she debuted her <a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/lady-gaga/742495/you-and-i.jhtml#artist=3061469">video for "Yoü and I,"</a> the singer discussed how difficult love can sometimes be and how her art explores that theme. "Sometimes in love, you can't make it work," she said. "No matter what you do, there's this giant boundary between you and someone else. So, that's what it's about: perceiving in your imagination that there's something magical inside of you that you can make it work."</P><P><B>4.</B> At the <a href="http://www.mtv.com/ontv/vma/2011">2011 VMAs</a>, she pulled the ultimate costume change by appearing as her male alter-ego, <a href="/news/articles/1669944/lady-gaga-jo-calderone-monsters-fans.jhtml">Jo Calderone</a>. Gaga, as Jo, took home the Moonman for her fist-pumping equality anthem <a href="http://www.mtv.com/videos/lady-gaga/742058/born-this-way.jhtml#artist=3061469">"Born This Way."</a> Afterward, Jo explained, "She was texting me after the award, after I picked it up for her, and she just said, 'You know, more than anything I've ever gotten before, this means more to me, because "Born This Way" is about the fans and the fans are more important to me than anything I do; more important than f—ing breathing, you know?' "</P><P><B>3.</B> In late 2011, Gaga released her semi-autobiographical <a href="/news/articles/1675400/lady-gaga-marry-the-night-costumes.jhtml">video for "Marry the Night,"</a> noting that history can be reinterpreted for her art, if need be. "This was one of the first times that the fashion didn't propel so much of the story line," she explained. "It is autobiographical, so the entire story's true, and it's through the lens of how I choose to repaint my past."</P><P><B>2.</B> Behind every great woman is a great Haus. Gaga's famed, rarely spotted, <a href="/news/articles/1625758/lady-gaga-explains-her-haus-gaga-no-one-gets-it.jhtml">Haus of Gaga</a> are the folks who help create the live shows, fashions and accessories she wears. And they mean everything to her. "They're my best friends," she said. "I'm not really sure what the world thinks … but I do hear things like, 'Who is the Haus of Gaga?' and 'Are you putting out a fashion line?' And no one gets it. It's not a commodity. It's not something that's meant to be sold.</P><P>"It's a real bond and relationship, and that's what I think music and art is about," she said. "They are my heart and soul. They believe in me, and they look at me like a mother and daughter and sister, with pride and love."</P><P><B>1.</B> In the end, everything Gaga does is for her art, and there's no place Gaga feels more at home than onstage in front of thousands of screaming fans. "I don't see the live show as extension of the record at all, it's meant to be a completely different experience with the artist, with myself. I want my fans to come and go to a party," <a href="/news/articles/1610781/lady-gaga-on-success-turning-point-me-was-gay-community.jhtml">she told MTV News</a>.</P><P>"I want them to watch the show and think, 'I'm so f—ing cool that I am here right now.' It's about them. It's about love. It's about art. The show is meant to bring a tremendous feeling and sentiment of escapism."</P><P><i>Share your birthday wishes for Gaga in the comments below!</i></p>

Islamic hard-liners worry that sexy clothes and dancing will corrupt youth.

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a> lives to provoke and push the envelope. But not everyone is up for her antics. The "Americano" singer has been forced to cancel her sold-out June 3 "Born This Way Ball" show at the 52,000-seat Gelora Bung Karno stadium in Jakarta, Indonesia after Islamic hard-liners and conservative lawmakers said her sexy costumes, suggestive dance moves and "vulgar" style could corrupt the nation's youth.</P><P>According to the <a href="http://news.yahoo.com/lady-gaga-cancel-indonesia-concert-093021436.html" target="_blank"><I>Associated Press</I></a>, a spokesperson for the national police said on Tuesday (May 15) that the permit for the show has been denied after religious conservatives worried that the concert could undermine the nation's moral fiber. Above the Buzz rounds up the best pop songs praising mom.
By Jocelyn Vena

<P>Mother's Day is just around the bend — Sunday, to be exact. If you're reading this and that's news to you, you might want to order your mama some flowers and read on for some awesome mixtape song selections courtesy of <i>Above the Buzz</i>.</P><P>Pop music has had a longstanding tradition of cranking out tunes that pay homage to the most important woman in everyone's life: mommy dearest. How could you not look to mom for musical inspiration? She loves you unconditionally, pushes you to be your best, is an awesome shopping buddy and, at one point, let you make that terrible decision of rocking blond highlights back in high school when you really had no business being blonde.</P><P>Basically, she's your friend until the end. So, hit record on your boom box and collect these tunes to let mom know how much you love and appreciate her. (And, yes, I am writing this column from a random Mother's Day in the '90s when people still recorded mixtapes off boom boxes.)</P><P>In 1999, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/backstreet_boys/artist.jhtml">the Backstreet Boys</a> released a sappy ballad titled "The Perfect Fan." With touches of gospel on the track, the sentiment thanking their moms for always being supportive reaches it crescendo when the fivesome declare, "I wanna thank you for what you've done/ In hopes I can give back to you/ And be the perfect son." Writing a song about your mom, boys, is certainly a good start.</P><P>Years before BSB dropped their mommy ode, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/boyz_ii_men/artist.jhtml">Boyz II Men</a> released "A Song for Mama" in 1997. In the deeply emotional ballad produced and written by Babyface, the guys praise their mamas for showing them the right thing to do. "You're always there for me/ Have always been around for me, even when I was bad/ You showed me right from my wrong/ Yes, you did," they sing. And, we swooned.</P><P>That same year, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spice_girls/artist.jhtml">the Spice Girls</a> released "Mama." Lyrically, it is a bit different from the tracks the boys released. The song is about the girls' growing relationships with their moms, who went from their biggest enemy when they were teens to being their best friends as adults. The ladies sing, "Back then, I didn't know why/ Why you were misunderstood/ So now I see through your eyes/ All that you did was love."</P><P>An equally touching ode from <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/aguilera_christina/artist.jhtml">Christina Aguilera</a>, "Oh Mother," delves into a more serious topics than those other tracks. Released in 2006, the song reflects on her mother's abusive relationship with her father. The song is incredibly personal, relaying some details about watching her mother get abused. But, in the end, she wants her mom to know this: "So mother, I thank you/ For all that you've done and still do/ You got me, I got you/ Together, we always pull through."</P><P>On the other side of the emotional mom rollercoaster is <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/swift__taylor/artist.jhtml">Taylor Swift</a>'s "The Best Day," which she dropped in 2008. The track is a mid-tempo jam about all the awesome things her mom does to make her feel better when she's low and all the things her mom taught her. ‘He’s been to comedy what Marlon Brando was to acting,’ director Larry Charles tells MTV News.
By Kevin P. Sullivan

For each of Sacha Baron Cohen’s onscreen conquests, one man has been there every step of the way. Larry Charles made a name for himself as supervising producer and occasional writer for “Seinfeld,” but his work directing Baron Cohen’s films brought him a new kind of recognition.

Baron Cohen asked Charles once again to helm his film with “The Dictator,” and MTV News spoke with the director in the lead-up to the film’s release.

One of the biggest challenges posed by their new film was the creation of an entirely new character. Unlike Baron Cohen’s previous films, which came out of his work on “Da Ali G Show,” the writers of “The Dictator” created the concept for General Aladeen with the comedian in mind. This meant that Baron Cohen had to work through the specifics of Aladeen to make him as fully realized.

“Unlike the other movies, where Sacha had a character that he had been working on for years and years and years and was to hone, he knew how this character walked and talked and reacted to every situation when it came to Bruno or Borat or Ali G, but this is a brand-new character,” Charles said. “He had to create this character from the ground up, from the accent to the look to the body language. We needed to give him as much time as possible to evolve that character to where he was ready for the camera.”

Additionally, “The Dictator” did away with Baron Cohen’s old format of real-life people interacting with the character. The more traditional structure allowed Charles to get additional takes with Baron Cohen for the first time. “I had never had a second take with Sacha in any of the movies,” he said. “We would do one take. Now that one take may last eight hours for some of the scenes we did in ‘Borat’ or ‘Bruno.’ Eight straight hours of him having to do a character. Eight straight hours of filming it. Here we didn’t have to do that.”

Considering that some of the “Borat” and “Bruno” interviews resulted in lawsuits and physical threats, Charles said the “Dictator” set was indeed much safer, but that security came at a price. “It’s certainly physically safer, no question about it,” Charles said. “To be in the United States with a full crew and security and have some kind of permission to be there and not encounter the hostility that we have encountered all over the world and here. At the same time, the danger here is complacency.”

The real reason Charles has been willing to work with Baron Cohen repeatedly is that he genuinely believes him to be a comedic genius. “I really classify him in that rare company of comic geniuses. I think there have been a handful of them in film and television history,” Charles said. “He has changed the face of comedy like few other people have. He’s been to comedy what Marlon Brando was to acting. Comedy will be different after him. You can’t go back to some of the old-fashioned ways after you’ve seen Sacha do his thing at his best.”

Check out everything we’ve got on “The Dictator.”

‘Boyfriend’ remixers have nothing but praise for teen crooner and comparisons to their ‘Wait (The Whisper Song).’
By Jocelyn Vena

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a>'s <a href="/news/articles/1684836/justin-bieber-boyfriend-remix-ying-yang-twins.jhtml">"Boyfriend"</a> got the remix treatment from rap duo the <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/ying_yang_twins/artist.jhtml">Ying Yang Twins</a> this week. The twosome dropped their take on the singer's single late Wednesday, amping up the song's sexiness with their signature sense of innuendo.</P><P>Playing on the song's title, the Twins (D-Roc and Kaine) note on their verses that while Bieber is offering up his services as your boyfriend, they're a little older and a little wiser and want to be your older sister's man. When MTV News spoke to D-Roc on Thursday (May 10), he talked a little bit about wanting to have fun with the Mike Posner/ Mason Levy-produced track.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Ying Yang Twins 'Complimented' Bieber Back With 'Boyfriend' Remix" id="vid:767914" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>"He want to be your boyfriend, but I want to be your <i>man.</i> I'm grown. I'm good and grown," he said. "I've been through that boyfriend/girlfriend stage, but you know, he's going through that, so that's what complemented the track too. It's like, 'OK, I want to be your man. I don't want to be your boyfriend. I'm bigger than the boyfriend.' But that's Justin Bieber, so if you got a little sister, Justin Bieber want to be her boyfriend."</P><P>D-Roc was also inspired to remix the track after many music fans had noted comparisons between Bieber's song and the Twins' 2005 hit "Wait (The Whisper Song)." "Before Justin Bieber actually had dropped the song, the hype around it, everybody was calling me saying, 'Hey, man, did y'all hear the Justin Bieber song?' I was so amped up to hear the song too. When I actually did, I listened to it and I was like, it sounded like us. He complimented us," he said. "So I wanted to compliment him by getting on it.</P><P>"It was there," he added of the comparisons. "But the thing about it is, for him to step out for the first time rapping and we was the first compliment that he gave, I felt like that young man is on job. And he did it well. It made a statement to me like, 'OK, he just trying to grow up,' and with him growing up, like, he want y'all to take him as he's grown. 'I'm 18. I'm grown now. I can do my own thing.' And what better lane, and he picked us, and I feel like that was a compliment and to compliment him back, I wanted to do the remix."</P><P>While D-Roc has yet to meet the singer, he has high praise for him. "He's a very talented young man," he said. "Like, to have as many talents as he knows how to do, you know, it's like he's a threat. He's gonna come in, and they better watch out for the young man, 'cause the young man got something to bring to the table."</P><P>Bieber will drop his highly anticipated album, <a href="/news/articles/1684079/justin-bieber-believe-album-cover.jhtml"><i>Believe,</i></a> on June 19. "Boyfriend" is the lead single, and last Thursday, he dropped the <a href="/news/articles/1684646/justin-bieber-boyfriend-video-2.jhtml">video</a> for the hit.</P><P><i>What do you think of the Ying Yang Twins' remix? Let us know in the comments!</i></P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Frame By Frame: Justin Bieber's 'Boyfriend'" id="vid:766128.id:1684574" width="415" height="255"></div><p></p>

Amber Portwood has been released from jail. She got sprung yesterday.

The troubled Teen Mom star was placed back behind bars last week after violating the terms of her probation by failing to appear in an Indiana court.

The 22-year-old allegedly lied about a medical condition to get out of a drug test. Her probation officer called the bluff, asking her doctor directly.

Some very sleepy-eyed Amber Portwood mug shots soon followed.

Amber Screams

How’s the reality star feeling now that she’s back on the other side?

“OK,” Amber told E! News. “Just hustling. I’ve got a lot on my plate.”

Naturally.

According to her brother, Shawn Portwood, Amber’s “new goal is to join the military.” Yes, apparently he’s serious. “She was going to work hard to get her charge reduced,” added Shawn. “She’s been doing so well.”

The Teen Mom trailer would suggest otherwise, but here’s hoping.

“Be yourself and you can be anything.” – Katy Perry

The upcoming documentary concert film Katy Perry: Part of Me now has an official poster, teasing insight into the singer’s private life as well as her singing career.

The film will focus on Perry’s bombastic live performances, but there’s more to it, as well. Who is the lovely young woman behind the getups and catchy #1 hits?

Katy Perry 3D Movie Poster

The documentary tells the story of Perry’s life, her rise to stardom, and her current status as one of the world’s most famous celebrities, beginning July 5.

It will also touch on some of her “dark times,” such as her divorce from Russell Brand, which understandably crushed Katy despite an amicable parting of ways.

For a more extensive preview of the forthcoming behind-the-scene look at the “Firework” herself, check out the Katy Perry: Part of Me in 3D trailer below:

‘Everything I wanted it to feel like, everything I wanted to say, it’s there,’ KStew says of watching the final cut of the film.
By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Kristen Stewart
Photo: MTV News

Those familiar with the Hollywood moviemaking process likely know that what is first scripted on the page, and then performed by the actors, and then released unto the masses doesn’t always turn out to be an accurate representation of what was initially written. Scripts change, performances alter. In short, after an actor wraps their work on any particular production, they can’t be totally sure about what will end up on screen until they see a finished cut of the film.

That does not seem to be the case with the highly anticipated “Snow White and the Huntsman”, in that star Kristen Stewart recently revealed that director Rupert Sanders’ brilliant plans became a brilliant film.

“I was so excited,” Stewart said of her reaction upon seeing the finished product. What’s unique, she said, is that the movie is just as “cool” as its concept art — the sketches, storyboards or short videos that directors and producers often assemble in order to sell studios and actors on the concept behind a movie.

“That’s the way Rupert Sanders got the job as director of this movie, by putting together a five-minute version of the movie and presenting the darkness and lightness of the world. I thought that it was insane because it felt like two different people did it, it was so, so beautiful when it was light and so exuberantly happy, and then when it was dark it was wretched and disgusting. I think when I first saw the movie I saw that. It was like, ‘Wow.’ Everything I wanted it to feel like, everything I wanted to say, it’s there.”

Check out everything we’ve got on “Snow White and the Huntsman.”

Singer’s first Believe single sells more than 500,000 copies in its first week.
By Jocelyn Vena

<P>As expected, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a>'s new single <a href="/news/articles/1681935/justin-bieber-boyfriend-believe-release.jhtml">"Boyfriend"</a> has made an impressive debut. After dropping last Monday, the song has sold 520,000 downloads in its first week.</P><P>The number is particularly meaningful since it places him at #2 in all-time first-week singles sales. Flo Rida's track "Right Round," featuring a then up-and-coming Ke$ha, has the Biebs beat, according to <a href="http://www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/rumormill.cgi" target="_blank">Hits Daily Double</a>. Flo's track sits at #1 with 636,000 units moved. Other big sellers include the Black Eyed Peas' "Boom Boom Pow" with 465,000 in downloads (#3), and Mother Monster herself, Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" selling 447,000 (#4).</P><P><center><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:754722/cp~vid%3D754722%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A754722" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></center></P><P>Not only are fans gobbling up the single, but his real-life girlfriend, Selena Gomez, has given the song two thumbs up. "Is it my ring tone? No. I didn't even know you could make it a ring tone," Gomez told <a href="http://www.eonline.com/news/selena_gomez_talks_spring_breakers/305553#ixzz1qyrPXFed" target="_blank">E! News</a>. "It is a great song."</P><P>Bieber is hardly resting on his laurels. The teen star is back in the studio working on <i>Believe.</i> He explained on Twitter that the album, for which "Boyfriend" is the lead single, will <i>go there.</i> "Here making music addressing the past and the rumors, clearing it all up in the music. Im putting it all out there on this album. #BELIEVE," he <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/justinbieber" target="_blank">tweeted</a>.</P><P>He also tweeted out silly videos of himself acting goofy on mock-up sets of the "Boyfriend" video, which he shot last week. In one, he stands in front of a green screen of icy land and in another he stands in front of a green screen of a fireplace.</P><P>Of course, Bieber already shared that there really will be <a href="/news/articles/1682156/justin-bieber-explains-boyfriend-video.jhtml">fire and ice</a> in the video. "The concept of this video, I mean it's not like a steady concept," he explained to MTV News on the Cali-based set in between shots. "It's not like 'Justin follows this girl to this spot.' No, it's a bunch of amazing scenes: Like a fire scene, we have an ice scene.</P><P>"It's kind of like bouncing back and forth," he said. "And then there's scenes of me and just a bunch of girl dancers, and just some great shots, great artistic shots, great shots of me smiling. It's fun."</p>

From “The Social Network” to “Moneyball,” screenwriter Aaron Sorkin‘s work has been widely praised — the former landing him an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. Now he’s turning his sights to the highly anticipated “Steve Jobs.” Sony Pictures Co-Chairman Amy Pascal and president of Columbia Pictures Doug Belgrad announced Tuesday that Sorkin will pen the script based on the best-selling biography by award-winning journalist Walter Isaacson.

“Steve Jobs,” published October 2011, was Amazon’s best-selling book last year with sales exceeding 2,200,000. Sony bought the movie rights before the tome even released. Pascal commented on the announcement, saying, “Steve Jobs’ story is unique: He was one of the most revolutionary and influential men not just of our time but of all time. There is no writer working in Hollywood today who is more capable of capturing such an extraordinary life for the screen than Aaron Sorkin; in his hands, we’re confident that the film will be everything that Jobs himself was: captivating, entertaining, and polarizing.”

Mark Gordon, Scott Rudin and Guymon Casady will produce the project.

This film is not to be confused with the other Jobs biopic, tentatively titled “Jobs: Get Inspired,” starring Ashton Kutcher.

Sorkin is currently in production for HBO’s “The Newsroom,” which is set to premiere on June 24. He’ll also try his hand as a librettist for the first time on Broadway’s 2013-14 production of “Houdini,” starring Hugh Jackman.

My sister recently had a talk with my four-year-old nephew Jack about strangers. Here’s how it went:

SISTER: Now, Jack, if a stranger says, “Come here, I want to show you something,” what do you do?

JACK: I turn around and run!

SISTER: If a stranger says, “Come here, I want to give you some candy,” what do you do?

JACK: I turn around and run!

SISTER: If a stranger says, “Come here, I want to show you my puppy,” what do you do?

JACK: Oh, I love puppies…

<P>On Thursday (January 7), the U.K.'s Royal Mail unveiled a series of 10 new stamps, honoring the most iconic album covers of the past 40 years.</P><P>The albums featured in the new series are the <a href="/music/artist/rolling_stones/artist.jhtml">Rolling Stones</a>' <i>Let It Bleed,</i> <a href="/music/artist/led_zeppelin/artist.jhtml">Led Zeppelin</a>'s <i>IV,</i> <a href="/music/artist/bowie_david/artist.jhtml">David Bowie</a>'s <i>The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars,</i> <a href="/music/artist/mike_oldfield/artist.jhtml">Mike Oldfield</a>'s <i>Tubular Bells,</i> <a href="/music/artist/clash/artist.jhtml">The Clash</a>'s <i>London Calling,</i> <a href="/music/artist/new_order/artist.jhtml">New Order</a>'s <i>Power, Corruption and Lies,</i> <a href="/music/artist/primal_scream/artist.jhtml">Primal Scream</a>'s <i>Screamadelica,</i> <a href="/music/artist/pink_floyd/artist.jhtml">Pink Floyd</a>'s <i>The Division Bell,</i> <a href="/music/artist/blur/artist.jhtml">Blur</a>'s <i>Parklife</i> and — the most recent album on to make the cut — <a href="/music/artist/coldplay/artist.jhtml">Coldplay</a>'s <i>A Rush of Blood to the Head.</i></P><P>Meant to honor "the most potent graphic images of modern times, many of which have provided a visual soundtrack to people's lives," the series is the end result of a lengthy research process by the Royal Mail, who looked through thousands of album covers by British artists before deciding on the final list. And, during a Wednesday night BBC Radio broadcast, it was revealed that the queen herself actually approved each design.</P><P>Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page — who helped design the cover for <i>IV</i> — was on hand to celebrate the release of the stamps and recalled the mysterious nature of the album's iconic imagery.</P><P>"Almost 40 years after the album came out, nobody knows the old man who featured on the cover, nor the artist who painted him," he said. "That sort of sums up what we wanted to achieve with the album cover, which has remained both anonymous and enigmatic at the same time."</P><P>Of course, any great honor is befitting of an equally great contest, so, on the same day the stamps were made available to the general public, Coldplay decided to give one of their <i>Rush of Blood</i> stamps away. In a message on their official site, the band held a contest to send one lucky fan "a letter using a Coldplay stamp, postmarked with today's issue date."</P><P>"We visited our local post office earlier today and bought some of the Coldplay stamps," the message read. "Very nice they are too."</p>
